Earlier&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/canada-abu-dhabi-trade-9.6986012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>, however, mentioned an investment pact signed by Carney and his hosts in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pact was \u201ca prelude to a trade agreement in any scenario that Canada has been in,\u201d the former premier of Quebec, Jean Charest, who accompanies Carney on his UAE visit, told the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadian media noted that the UAE is using its abundant oil and gas resources to fuel a data center boom, benefiting from cheap energy, and that Carney\u2019s government wanted to replicate the scheme with Alberta\u2019s oil sands as a source of affordable energy to power data centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canada\u2019s new Prime Minister has been touring the world in search for alternative trade partners to the country as it distances itself from its neighbor in the south amid President Trump\u2019s non-delicate, to put it mildly, rhetoric on matters of trade and Canadian sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only way Canada is going to have trade agreements with \u2026 new regions in the world is if the prime minister is the one who leads it,\u201d Charest also said, as quoted by CBC News, adding that \u201cWe have a lot in common, because we&#8217;re each in our own way a hub to the rest of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Carney\u2019s meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, an official&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pm.gc.ca\/en\/news\/readouts\/2025\/11\/20\/prime-minister-carney-meets-president-united-arab-emirates-his-highness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;from the Prime Minister\u2019s office said that the two had agreed to close a deal that would see lower bilateral tariffs and greater export market access for Canadian companies.
